In 2023, James embarked on a new creative chapter, authoring works that span children’s literature, personal memoir, and cultural history.

The first, Atman, is a deeply personal non-fiction book inspired by his own life journey—chronicling recovery from mental health struggles and the search for true self, or Atma. It explores themes of resilience, healing, and self-discovery, offering readers a reflective guide toward inner strength and authenticity.

That same year, James released Dogs of Bondi: Barry’s Beach Adventure, his debut children’s book which has since grown into a five-part series, Barry’s Music Adventures. These heartwarming stories follow Barry, a guitar-playing Labrador, across Australia—from the beaches of Bondi and Phillip Island to the forests of Kyabram, the laneways of Melbourne, and the wild rivers of Cairns. Each book weaves together themes of friendship, music, kindness, and courage, grounded in the stories, landscapes, and cultures of First Nations Country.

Looking ahead, James is currently developing a poetry collection and a history education book for release in 2026 through the not-for-profit Magic Lands Alliance, created in close collaboration with First Nations communities. Both works will continue his commitment to truth-telling, cultural preservation, and storytelling that inspires positive change.

Barry’s Music Adventures – Children’s Book Series

What began with Dogs of Bondi: Barry’s Beach Adventure has grown into a five-book series, Barry’s Music Adventures. These heartwarming tales for ages 0–8 follow Barry, a guitar-playing Labrador, as he travels across Australia, discovering the power of music, friendship, and kindness. Each story is set on Country, celebrating connection to place, community, and culture.
